ROUND 9 Silverstone

BSB Round 9 Silverstone September 7th-9th

For round 9 of the British Superbikes, Jamie and the team headed to Silverstone circuit. Prior to the round Jamie completed a test day with the aim to get good base settings for the upcoming round. Unfortunately following some difficulties with the track the usual GP circuit that Jamie had tested and ridden on previous years was not to be used and the shorter national circuit would be raced.

Jamie was feeling a little less positive heading into round 9 as he had never been around the national circuit. Never the less going into free practice 1 and 2 Jamie was completing competitive lap times and ending the sessions within the top 10 Supersport competitors.

Disappointingly on Saturday morning Jamie and the team woke up to rain at Silverstone, meaning a wet qualifying. Jamie was going well in the wet conditions but in the 30 minute qualifying session the conditions became a drying track, Jamie had a highside at Woodcote, but managed to get back to pitlane and back out on track. On getting back out on track Jamie felt something unusual on his right arm, Jamie pulled in and took off his glove and blood was dripping from his leathers sleeve. Jamie took himself off to the medical centre and had a rather gory injury on his elbow, being treated with 1 internal stitch and 6 external. Jamie thought that was the worst of it but when he got back to the garage he found the team having to change the engine due to damage sustained in the crash.

Jamie qualified P25 on the grid - P21 Supersport and finished 9th Supersport in the sprint race.

Jamie started the feature race further up the grid in P12 although he knew this was still not ideal as it would be difficult to break away with the leading pack. Jamie found himself dicing in a second group on track between P8-P11 but had an unfortunate incident with another rider which ended the race for Jamie. Jamie found himself trapped in the rear wheel of another competitor. Jamie has not sustained any serious injuries although he left Silverstone rather battered and bruised and his bike has considerable damage. This was not an ideal situation with round 10 being only 4 days away.

Quotes from Jamie:
"To finish 9th Supersport in the Saturday sprint race I felt was a reasonable result, following the disastrous qualifying session - Thanks to the team working tirelessly to get me out for the race!"

"Overall I am really disappointed with how the weekend went and I am hoping to come back stronger at the next round."
