ROUND 11 Assen

BSB Round 11 Assen September 28th-30th

For round 11 of the British Superbikes, Jamie and the team headed to the Netherlands and the cathedral of speed, Assen. With the weather forecast looking the best it had ever been at the Dutch circuit we were all excited.

After the two free practice sessions on Friday we were pleased with the pace that we had on used tyres and at such low effort level. After working just on the bike set up a bit from the previous years settings, we knew we could make a good job of qualifying.

We woke up Saturday morning to clear blue skies ready for qualifying in the morning. The session started well, with top 5 lap times on an old rear tyre. Jamie then pitted for a new rear tyre and with 10 minutes left of the session was prepared to have a proper stab at a qualifying lap. However as Jamie was on his out lap he heard a horrendous noise coming from the bike, he knew this was his session finished and due to this he unfortunately slipped down to 9th on the grid for the sprint race in the afternoon.

After investigating the noise it was discovered that it was a gearbox issue meaning that the team would have to change the engine between qualifying and the sprint race, in just 2 hours!

We managed to get the engine change complete with minutes to spare before the pitlane would open for the sprint race. Jamie was having a great race and was away with the leading pack of 5 battling for podium positions, but yet more bad luck on lap 8 of 12, Jamie suffered a tyre problem and limped the bike around for the remainder of the race. Finishing in a disappointing 9th but with a lap time that placed him 7th on the grid for the feature race on Sunday.

However for Sundays feature race, Jamie didn't get a great start which meant he had to work hard to get to the front of the pack he was in. After trying to break away from the group to get away in 4th he was sucked back into the pack which put him in a battle that went from 4th place all the way down to 12th. Jamie finished the feature race in a solid 5th position.
Quotes from Jamie:

"Not the best results I've had this year but certainly not the worst! I wish my tyre had lasted in race one as I think I was in for a really good result."
"I'm happy about race two though as it's one of the most enjoyable and funny races I've had for a long time"
